The Friday Five - September 18, 2026

This week, students in the new SHS Global Scholars elective participated in their first international dialogue with Round Square schools in India, Qatar, Japan, South Africa, and Namibia. It was hosted by Inventure Academy in India with the theme "The Hyper Connected Generation: Rethinking Digital Rules". SHS students will be designing their own international dialogue event and will be presenting on October 28 with a school in Singapore. The class will also design and lead two more dialogues before the end of the semester. 

We believe an important part of a Scarsdale education is helping students developing global citizenship skills and dispositions. Part of that work includes engaging in student exchanges. This year's first exchange will take place with a group of students from Italy between October 20th and 26th. We look forward to welcoming our visitors and thank our host families! SHS students will complete the exchange in February!      

On Wednesday, Scarsdale teacher and coach James Synowiez was recognized by Good Morning America as one of five coaches from across the country honored for making a difference in their communities. Coach Synowiez was able to share a bit about his work in Scarsdale, and also the work he and our athletes do to support inclusive sports for all abilities with Able Athletics. This is just what Scarsdale educators do! 

On Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, Greenburgh Nature Center will host Animals of the Americas, a celebration of the incredible animals of Central and South America in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month. The program will feature live animal encounters (in both Spanish and English), interactive activities, and opportunities for visitors to explore the connections between animals, people, and the diverse environments of the Americas. Live programs will take place from 10–11 AM and 2–3 PM each day, with additional activities available throughout the day from 10 AM–4 PM.
